Why you should watch this awesome wonder.
This coming Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 there is going to be a special Super Flower Blood Moon. This celestial event is going to include not only a super moon but also a total lunar eclipse. Actually-there are a few celestial events happening simultaneously to make this a spectacular watch.
First is the Full Moon, starting about dusk (May 25th). Now, everyone on this earth will be able to see the full moon, weather permitting. It is a going to be a Supermoon and will appear about 7% larger than average. It should be the biggest and brightest full moon of 2021. It is also a Blood Moon, due to the Total Lunar Eclipse. The moon will slip into the earth’s shadow and turn red for about 15 minutes.
This event is called a Flower Blood Moon, just because of the time of year that it occurs. May and springtime. Associated with flowers blooming!
The total lunar eclipse will be visible across the western U.S. (here’s a handy Google Map) to figure out what time to look up. For most in the US, the Super Moon will be at dusk- “Totality”—when the Moon turns reddish—will be visible from 11:11 through 11:25 UTC.
Those of us that are near the Mississippi River or east of it may not see the “totality”, but the biggest and brightest full moon of 2021 will still be a sight to behold. So…look to the east! But folks in Hawaii and Australia and possibly those on the west coast- PLEASE take some great pictures and post them in the comments. PLEASE- It’s going to be an incredible site.
I imagine that looking up and seeing the moon this red and this BIG must have been pretty frightening to our ancestors.
Ancient cultures used to do everything in accordance to the seasons, the tides and the placement of stars in the night sky. Including the moon. They found meaning and sometimes life sustaining and life saving value in naturally occurring events. Some ancient cultures didn’t understand why the moon turned red, and associated it with apocalyptic events.
As recently as 2014- there was a set of apocalytic prophecies espoused by 2 at that time pretty well known Christian pastors about a series of 4 consecutive lunar eclipses and the end times. It references the Book of Joel 2:31- with the blood moon signaling the beginning of the end. So, the 4th event in the prophecy was Sept 2015. (and we still here)
There are plenty of astronomers, astrologists and biblical prophets out there who can provide you with details about what causes the phenomenon (science) and their perception of the significance of the events. They can explain better than me the reason the moon turns red during a total eclipse instead – for example green!
So, this Super blood Moon will be a wonder and that’s why I think you should take it in. Nothing like watching natural events – the beauty and sadly sometimes the destruction on your own to gain an appreciation, awe and reverence for the wonder of it all.
I didn’t take in Halley’s Comet when it passed through in 1986 and honestly- I probably won’t be around to see in it 2061. If I am still on this plane- I literally may not be able to see it! In 1986, I was too busy with my 1 year old and more than likely asleep. It is a once in a lifetime experience that I wish I would have taken advantage of.
There are lots of thoughts around about the significance of a Blood Moon. It has been believed for a long time that when the moon is that close to the earth- the strong gravitational pull has the power to considerably alter moods; and can cause us to feel sudden, unexpected emotions.
I don’t know if there is science to any of that, but I do believe in signs and wonders and am working to be mindful and aware.
The Blood Moon prophecies believe that the it signals the Apocalypse. I believe an apocolyspse doesn’t have to mean the end of life as we know it- but it can mean closure or ending. Which we all know is not always bad.
The ending of one thing often signals the beginning of something new. Change. Resets. Shifts.
I am putting this one on my BUCKET LIST, and I encourage you to do the same.
If you stay up to watch, please take some great pictures and post them in the comments.
