Week 2 of Celery Juice

DAY 8 – DAY 14

glowing skin, energy and ?????

I was able to complete 2 weeks of celery juicing every morning on an empty stomach. I am really proud of myself because I am notorious for starting a gazillion things and not finishing any of them. This second week was fairly easy with only a few challenging, unmotivated days. It has actually been almost 3 weeks and I am still going strong. My morning ritual now looks like this:

10-12 ounces of warm lemon water

wait 20 minutes

10-12 ounces of fresh celery juice

wait 20 minutes

morning coffee

I was asked again by someone about celery juice and sodium restricted diets while on a call last Sunday morning. I did the best explanation that I could- but there are many others that can explain it better. Here is a great explanation of the sodium and mineral salts found in celery by Medical Medium.

The best analogy that I could come up with is regarding sugar/glucose. We all know that the sugar we sprinkle in our coffee is not the same as the sugar in an apple or a strawberry. The sodium/salt in celery is not the same as what you sprinkle on your food.

At the end of 2 weeks, I would say that I have noticed the following benefits:

  • less brain fog
  • increased energy- especially in the morning
  • clearer, more moisturized skin
  • less bloated upper mid section

Here is my second 2 weeks in a nutshell.

DAY 8

I am definitely feeling more energized. I think that my body aches on DAY 6 were partly from detoxing and partly from the weather. I have incorporated the warm water with lemon first thing- and it seems to move up the timeline for the bathroom visit. To continue this indefinitely, I would need to get up even earlier on days when I need to make the celery juice from scratch. Warm water with lemon. Wait 20 minutes. Celery juice. Wait 20 minutes. Coffee. Bathroom in 20 minutes. That is an entire hour of the “process”. I haven’t even gotten in the shower yet!

DAY 9

Cruisin. Drank the celery juice with a straw since I had made 2 days worth and it was very cold. I was actually looking forward to drinking it.

DAY 10

Another easy day. I’m a bit in a funk, but that could be weather related. It is May, but we are stuck in April Showers!

DAY 11

Today is Wednesday and it is “hump day” in more ways than one. We haven’t seen the sun in about 5 days and putting down that green stuff was challenging this morning. I found the need to encourage myself and felt like maybe someone else out there could use it too. You see, I am not really seeing the dramatic results that so many talk about with celery juice. But I have to trust that even though I don’t see it- good things are happening. Keep pushing- even when it’s hard.

DAY 12

Most noticeable for me is an increase in energy and a clearer head. I have occasionally felt brain fog in the past year and that seems to be better. That is reason enough to keep going.

DAY 13

Eazy Peazy. One day to go and I’m feeling pretty into the routine of doing this every morning. I know 2 weeks is just a drop in the bucket and how quickly you feel great can sometimes depend on how toxic you were to start with. I imagine that after a year of pandemic inconsistency with self care- I have a host of things to correct.

DAY 14

Two weeks in the book. I didn’t miss a single day. Once I got into the groove- this was a snap.

I am planning to continue with the celery juice every morning for as long as possible. It definitely feels like a positive morning habit. Of course I will be incorporating other healthy nutritional strategies and will keep you posted.

What other healthy habit should I add to the next 2 weeks? With my personality, I can probably only add one at a time. Hit me up in the comments with what daily rituals are working for you.

Here are some fun facts I learned about celery.

  • Celery is 95% water
  • Celery is a member of the carrot family
  • Prior to the 16th century, celery was used as medicine- not food.
  • Celery, like peanuts can cause severe reactions for those that are allergic.
  • Celery is native to the Middle East and the Mediterranean
  • Tastes better at room temperature or with a straw!

I use a nutribullet to blend celery and then use cheese cloth to strain the juice.

I watch Anthont Williams on Youtube as the Medical Medium. He is funny and entertaining, but also is an expert on juicing celery and it’s benefits. His book Medical Medium, Celery Juice is available on Amazon.

2 Weeks of Celery Juice Every Morning

Is anything happening? WEEK 1

I get my already prepared celery juice from a local place called Get Fresh Cafe. The juices are cold pressed, bottled in glass and will last for a couple days in the refrigerator.

We have all heard about the benefits of drinking celery juce. It contains at least 12 antioxidant compounds and we know that antioxidants help to remove free radicals in the body.

Celery juice reduces inflammation. Chronic inflammation causes stress to organs and tissue which over time has a negative impact on health.

Celery juice proponents say it is good for digestion, skin conditions, reduces blood pressure and helps a whole host of other ailments.

My nurse sister was worried about the amount of sodium with celery salts for those with hypertension. Celery is 95 % water. Each stalk has about 32mg of sodium, The sodium clusters in celery are of subgroup of sodium. That ham sammich is about 360 mg of sodium.

910 mg of sodium in that Chicken noodle soup

1330 mg of sodium in those Ramen noodles

DAY 5

I was really hoping for that what some folks might call a gross cleansing of the digestive tract. I want to feel that purged belly! So today I tried 10 oz of warm water before the celery juice. Waited at least 1/2 hour and had my coffee. TRIGGER WARNING…I had my usual post coffee-morning constitutional but nothing spectacular.

DAY 6

Nothing remarkable here. I used a straw to drink this morning. It tasted the same. I did put lipstick on today- before I put on my mask. A sign of energy and positivity!

This isn’t the first time that I have drank celery juice each morning on an empty stomach. I decided to try it again for 2 weeks as I try to be my best self for my son’s upcoming wedding. I have also just felt crappy after a year of quarantine and with winter finally coming to an end; why not? This time, I am tracking my progress and trying to be aware of any results.

In the past, my short falls were a lack of STICK-TO -IT- TIVE-NESS. Knowing this, I decided to purchase freshly squeezed celery juice from the local juicery and have it delivered for the first week. I am hoping that my habit of drinking celery juice each morning will be instilled by the second week when I will use my nutri-bullet and strain it for consumption.

DAY 1

I was prepared for lots of digestive impact (if you know what I mean) but I was able to drink it down and not experience any real urgency.

DAY 2

Is that my imagination or do I have a bit more energy? I got right up from bed without feeling like a slug, but I did turn in a little early. I need another day to confirm increased energy. Still no urgent digestive issues.

DAY 3

Hmmmnn. I’m still having increased energy, but my joints are crying out loud! I’m either detoxing or it’s about to rain. Still no urgent digestive issues. In fact, quite the opposite. I actually tried to up my water and took some metamucil.

SN It did rain.

DAY 4

OK. It feels like I have three levels of liquid in my stomach. Celery juice on the bottom, next layer warm water, next layer coffee. I actually feel a bit nauseated. I slept pretty good though and still have a noticeable uptick in energy.

DAY 7

Yesterday evening, my daughter in law told me my skin was glowing. I had not shared I was doing the celery drink each morning. I haven’t noticed any change in my skin, but apparently there is something going on. I am definitely aware of the boost in energy and the better sleep at night. Looking forward to next week to see what changes happen.
